Innovative Solution in Planning Software
With Horizon Solutions from Antwerp, two former Garvis employees enter the planning software market. Their mission is to provide small and medium-sized manufacturing companies access to affordable executive search solutions. The tool is already being used by office furniture manufacturer Ahrend and the Belgian food company Syros.
Speed and Ease of Use
Horizon offers a planning tool that supports the entire supply chain: from forecasting to procurement and production planning. Ben Van Delm, one of the founders, emphasizes the unique nature of their software. “We distinguish ourselves by the speed and ease of use with which companies can implement our software. With our tool, we can quickly extract relevant sales data from external ERP and CRM systems and convert it into a forecast. Moreover, we can directly translate that forecast into euros, making any discrepancies between sales and budget visible.”
From Garvis to End-to-End Solutions
Both founders gained their experience at Garvis, which was acquired by Logility in 2023. This was their moment to start something new. Van Delm shares: “We saw a significant need among small and medium-sized manufacturing companies for complete end-to-end planning tools—solutions that go beyond just demand planning and are also affordable.” These companies often cannot invest large sums in systems like O9 or Kinaxis and do not want to be tied to lengthy implementation processes.
Initial Customers and Applications
Horizon’s planning tool is now used by several companies, including Ahrend and Syros. At Ahrend, the focus is primarily on forecasting, while Syros uses the tool for production scheduling. Previously, production orders were scheduled manually, leading to inefficiencies. Thanks to Horizon’s software, this process is now automated and optimized, resulting in higher production volumes with the same capacity. Customers outside of Europe include plant seller Ugaoo in India and automotive manufacturer GUD in South Africa.
Growth Through Customer-Centric Development
Horizon Solutions aims to grow independently into a leading provider of planning software for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies. In the long term, they also want to enter higher market segments and compete with larger players like Kinaxis and O9. Van Delm notes: “There is no reason why our platform cannot also help these companies. At some large companies, we’re already on the shortlist because we provide exactly what they need. Of course, we still need to further professionalize as an organization, but we are actively working on that.”
Horizon Instant: Free Testing
The rapid development of the software is thanks to customer feedback. Many companies use Excel alongside their existing planning tool for additional tasks. Horizon now offers standard functionalities for planning new products or phasing out old ones. The most recent initiative is Horizon Instant, which allows potential customers to test the software for free with their own business data. This enables them to create a plan immediately and experience how the tool works. “In CRM or design software, it’s quite normal to test for free. For supply chain planning, this has been hardly available until now, but we demonstrate that it is possible,” says Van Delm.
